This Kind of Love

OK...if you are opposed to happy, love stuff, stop reading. Now. Although, I recommend you keep on.

I've gotten flowers numerous times, but it's always a surprise. At work Wednesday, a girl I work with had flowers hand delivered from her husband. How sweet, right?

This brought up the conversation in the "hub" (where I work) about the mistake many women make. The infamous words: "I don't really care about flowers." Liars. All of them. Have I said that before? Yes. To the current beau? Yes. Thankfully, he didn't listen. Another co-worker said she told her now husband the infamous phrase while they were dating, and he still hasn't gotten the point 12 years later. Need I say more?

Fast-forward a few hours to Wednesday night. Adam and I ate dinner at the country club, and then we went and looked at a car his dad is thinking about buying. Boring, I know. Boring is good after a week in Mexico. When we got back to Adam's house, he told me to close my eyes and brought something for me to smell. As I opened them, I saw beautiful lilies. We're not a "romantic" couple, and I like it that way. I think it makes gestures like this mean more.

I believe many people in today's society overuse the term "love." Blame it on technology or TV or who knows...but I loathe when I hear new friends or couples immediately telling each other they love one another. I do think you should tell the people you love that you love them often. But do it when you really feel it. Not because it's habit or you feel like you have to. More importantly, show the people you love that you love them. After all, love isn't just something you say. It's something you do.

Now, go listen to "This Kind of Love" by Sister Hazel (first few lyrics are below). Interestingly, I had never heard it and just happened to download it Wednesday at work after accidently finding it on iTunes. Everyone should have this kind of love.

"This kind of love makes me feel 10 feet tall
It makes all my problems fall
And this kind of trust helps me to hold the line
I'll be there every time

This kind of love, it's what I dreamed about
It fills me up
Baby, it leaves no doubt
This kind of love, it's why I'm standing here
It's something that we can share
I can't get enough...of this kind of love"
